FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is Neighborhood Scanner?

A neighborhood awareness and home protection service. We combine public and commercially available records into a private dashboard for your street, with alerts for home sales, move-ins, deed filings on your own home, sex-offender registry proximity, permits, storms, floods, wildfires and product recalls.

Where does the information come from?

County assessor and recorder offices, licensed public-record data providers, state sex offender registries (through licensed providers), local permit offices, state contractor licensing boards, the National Weather Service, FEMA, the EPA and the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Each item shows its source and date.

Is the information always accurate?

No dataset is perfect. Public records can be delayed, incomplete or wrong, and we can't guarantee accuracy. Always confirm important information with the official source we link to.

Can I use Neighborhood Scanner to screen a tenant, employee or nanny?

No. Neighborhood Scanner is not a consumer reporting agency and our data is not a consumer report under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. You may not use it to decide on housing, employment, credit, insurance or any other eligibility. See our FCRA notice.

Is title monitoring the same as title insurance?

No. Monitoring alerts you when a new document is recorded on your property so you can act quickly. It doesn't prevent fraud, cover losses or restore title.

Are the home value and tax appeal numbers official?

No. Home values are estimates based on public sales data, and the tax appeal check is an informational comparison, not tax or legal advice. Your county assessor's records are the official source.

How do billing and cancellation work?

Free Street Alerts are free with no card. Home Watch is $9.99/mo or $89.99/yr; Family Watch is $14.99/mo or $119.99/yr. Paid plans are billed in advance each month (or year) and renew automatically until you cancel. Cancel anytime online in Account → Billing, no phone call required, and keep access until the end of the period you've paid for. Contact support@neighborhoodscanner.com if you need help.

Do you offer refunds?

If you're charged for a renewal you didn't intend, email us within 7 days and we'll make it right. Full refund terms are in our terms of service.

When will home security discounts be available?

We're still signing partners. No offers are live yet; we'll announce them to members when they are.

I found my own information. How do I remove it?

Submit a request on our opt-out page. We'll verify the request and suppress your record from search results.

Can I use registry information to confront someone?

No. Registry information is provided for public safety awareness only. Using it to threaten, harass or intimidate anyone is a crime in many states and will get your account closed.
